Instituting The Past: The inner mechanics of the PMI Victorian History Library is a blog from the members and staff of the Prahran Mechanics’ Institute Victorian History Library.
The Prahran Mechanics’ Institute was founded in 1854 and provides a central resource for research into the history of Victoria with more than 30,000 books for loan and a professional information service for its members. It is dedicated to preserving the history of Victoria and Australia.
This blog contains monthly Plotting History segments which highlight how members use the library and give a fascinating insight into their research. We have everything from professional historians, to fiction writers, to architects and family historians. It promises to be a panoply of the past!
We also include book reviews from both our members and our staff.
We hope you enjoy Instituting The Past and if you’re interested in the library come down and say hello, our professional staff are always happy to help with any historical queries you might have.
